Mirror Mantra

While I was washing my hands, I caught my eye in the mirror.

Reflecting (haha, see what I did there?) back on a podcast I was recently listening to about how our thoughts affect our wellbeing and how to change them into something helpful, I decided to take a moment and say something kind to myself.

This is what came out of my brain:

I am awesome,

I am great,

even when

I make mistakes.

I don't know about you, but learning to not beat myself up when I make a mistake, has been a life-long struggle.

However, especially in a time in the world where having my immune system in top shape is so crucial, I've been starting to double down on practices that help me reprogram my patterns of negative self-talk.

When I said this mantra to myself it made me smile.

Actually, it felt like I had a personal cheerleading squad in my brain. The image of that made me smile even more.

I started to add onto it. Here's my favorite addition:

When I do

I'm still cool

'Cuz life is a

freakin' school!

This practice pairs great with Mel Robbins suggestion that we begin each day with high-fiving ourselves in the mirror.

I know it's silly but try it. What have you got to lose?

I want to know:

  • Do you have any positive, silly, or fun affirmations you say in the mirror?

  • What additional cheers would you add?

Let's make a whole list of cheers, I'd love to hear what you're telling yourself and try it out too.
