Heart Hugs
/I was saying goodbye to a friend of mine the other day and we hugged. When we pulled away, I pulled her to me again and leaned to the right this time for a second hug.
"I always hug on the ‘wrong’ side," my friend admitted, seeming a little embarrassed.
I said, "It's all good, now we get to hug twice."
Many years ago, I had a friend who would do the same maneuver of pulling me back in to hug on the other side. He pointed out that when you lean to the right when you hug someone, your hearts are aligned since they live on the left side of our chests.
I began to notice that not only does it feel energetically different to hug this way but also that many of us, myself included, have learned to hug the opposite way.
It's almost as if we've been taught to be disconnected even when we are gesturing to connect.
When I parted ways with my friend, this poem came to mind.
Heart Hugs
I've spent my whole life
trying to do what's right.
But I've finally learned
that sometimes
you've got to do what's left.
And that, too, is alright.
When I went to post this blog, as always, I searched for a picture to use with it.
I thought about doodling some hearts but I was at one of my favorite coffee shops, Cafe Hey. One of the (many) reasons why i love this place is they feature art from local artists on the walls
So I got up to see if I could find something in the current collection that fit. The first piece I saw was absolutely perfect.
It's called “Sacred Heart” and by Eve Epoch Artistry (follow her on Instagram and check out her beautiful art now showing at Cafe Hey).
I just love it when things comes together like this.
Hearts, art, all of it.
I'd love to know:
When you hug, which side do you tend to lean to?
Does leaning to one side or the other feel different for you?
