Just Wash the Dish

Yesterday when I got home from work, I put the jar that had my smoothie in it in the sink. I've had a bad habit of letting them sit there until I have more dishes to wash, which means the smoothie residue-coated sides get way harder to clean. Not to mention that after a certain amount of time it creates the most unpleasant aroma when opened.

I saw the jar in the sink and heard a voice in my head say, "Just wash the dish." So I did. It took me all of two minutes to have a clean sink again and since it didn't have the time to sit, it was super easy to clean. Plus, I spared myself the not-so-enjoyable experience of having to deal with a smoothie jar that sat for a day.

I'm practicing a habit that Gretchen Rubin suggested. If you realize a task needs to be done, and it won't take more than 5 minutes, then just do it the moment it appears on your mental to-do list. Make the bed, wash the dish, take out the recycling, clean the sink.
