Walking Does Wonders
/This is the month of getting back to the things that I'd let lapse. Though I've kept up a yoga movement practice, what has gone to the wayside for a while is a daily walking practice.
Early on in my movement journey that began following a car accident injury in 2019, I began to make walking my primary movement practice. I wrote about that here.
During my year of grief following my Dad's death, I'd walk at Lake Park almost every day.
But since I fell in love with yoga all over again this past year, I haven't made that much time for walking.
I had been thinking that I'd like to get back into this natural movement and decided that in August I'd re-start a daily walking practice. I know we're only two days in but so far so good.
Walking isn't just good for the body, it's also good for the mind. Your mind gets to wander as you do. Getting out and seeing the world differently helps garner new perspectives. Chance encounters are likely.
I challenge you to go for a walk today and see what you find, what ideas come into your brain, how you feel afterward. I heard Cheryl Strayed say recently that you never feel worse after a walk, you always feel a little bit better.
