The Secret Truth to Letting Go

This post is inspired by the wise words of Maryam Bakht.

When we think of "letting go," we often think of letting go of things that aren't working, aren't good for us, or are bringing us pain and suffering. But those aren't the only things we need to let go of.

We also need to let go of what has been good for us, what has brought us joy, what has came into our lives and left us a better and more whole person.

It's that kind of letting go that's sometimes more challenging.

Let's say you eat an apple everyday. It's one of the highlights of your day, you love the taste, the sound, the ritual of having this piece of fruit. It’s so good that you want to keep the apple core as a memento of the delicious fruit you had. So you put it in your pocket.

It wouldn't be long before you were a walking compost pile.

Even the good things we hold onto can begin to rot and stink.

You can't pick up new experiences if you're still holding onto the old ones. The wisdom is in recognizing when it's time to let go, no matter if what has expired was delicious or destructive. It all has to go eventually if you're ever going to experience the varieties that this world has to offer.
