An Insight Worth "Getting"

Telling myself that I have to write everyday feels like a burden.

Telling myself that I get to write everyday feels like a gift.

When you find yourself saying that you "have to" do something, stop.

First ask yourself, do you "have to" do this, or is there a choice? Are you choosing to do the thing? Even if it's a obligation, like having to write a paper for a class or pay your taxes or clean the litter box, didn't you choose to sign up for the class, run a legitimate business, get the cat?

So often, we can find ourselves feeling stuck by our choices. But when you shift this one little word, turning "have" to "get," it transforms the energy of what you're telling yourself.

Try it.

What's something that you loath, try to avoid, just don't want to do? What does it feel like when you say you "get" to do it?

“Getting to” do something reminds us that it's privilege to be alive. That's something worth remembering even in the most mundane and unappealing moments.
