How to Know If You're Happy
/We all have the same amount of time during the day, but there's countless ways to spend it. Most of the time we fall into the same kinds of activities. Go to work, come home, make food, maybe do some chores, relax on the couch.
Every person has their own way of moving through their day and the approach you have can be a test for how you're feeling.
It all comes down to this:
Are you doing things to make the time past faster? Or are you finding all the ways to savor the time you have?
Distracting ourselves with drugs and alcohol, tv, video games, and mindless social outings are ways to make the time past faster, to rush towards the end of the day, to skip to the end of chapter of our lives. It's not to say that these same activities can have powerful value in our lives when consumed with mindful intention. We can also make the time past faster by compulsive cleaning or obsessive exercise.
It all in how you approach things. It's less about what you're doing and the reason why. Are you just trying to pass the time or are you doing things you enjoy and noticing every detail in each moment? Even chores can be rich with joy.
Notice how you're approaching the way you spend time today and what it says about your state of mind.
