Not Feeling Great? Check this first.

Whenever I'm not feeling great, I find myself getting easily triggered, or am finding it hard to think I try to remember this simple rule:

Always try drinking water.

It's sounds so simple, but not drinking enough water can cause all kinds of issues with how we feel in our bodies as well as our minds. I actually learned this from a preschool teacher who makes that her first stop whenever a kid is having a melt-down.

Once the crying or yelling starts, she'll simply say, "Hey, let's go drink some water." She tells me that 90% of the time that takes care of the problem. The kid is distracted by a new stimulus and will often calm down and be able to at least clearly explain what it was that made them upset. Sometimes, they can also easily find a solution.

I try to adopt this in my own practice. When I'm feeling resistant to work, feel cloudy in my brain, or simply just feel a bad mood coming on, I'll think, "Hey, let's drink some water." I'm amazed at how often even a few sips will shift my mood.

Sometimes that doesn't always get it but I have a few more check-list items for when that's happening. I've included this checklist in my Body Listening-Cheat sheet you can get for yourself right here. It's packed with tips for how you can get on speaking terms with your body. It's always talking to you, but are you always listening? I'm here to help you do that.
