Where You Need It
/For a solid month or more, I've walked past this sign on my way into work at Gaze Yoga and tried to feel the kernel of it's message:
Your Yoga is Always Right Where You Need It to Be.
The thing was, about the time that this sign was written, my yoga practice was almost no where to be found. I had unexpectedly fallen in love and you know what that tends to do to your routines.
After over 6 months of consistent almost daily practice, I was down to once or twice a week, if that. I was doing some home practice but not much of it.
I would tell myself, "My yoga right now is nurturing this new relationship," which was true, but I knew that coming back to a physical and meditation practice would ultimately help me do that, as well as all the other magic it does in my life.
Then I got sick for 10 days. After that, I had mouth surgery which prevented me from strenuous activities for a week.
Last week, I decided it was time to come back.
I was so thankful I was a few days into reestablishing my daily practice when we got the news on Friday. I now practice with the greater awareness that choosing to move my body in ways that support and sustain me is a radical political act. I'm even more motivated to continue this practice.
Here's me, celebrating one week of consistent practice by drinking water in my car after class. You can't dismantle systems of oppression if you're dehydrated.
With the New Moon tonight in my 9th house of higher learning and exploration, I'm sowing the seeds of a committed practice and study of yoga and myself. I believe that this intention has positive potential for both myself and the world around me including those who inhabit it along side me.
What are your intentions for this New Moon?
What is the practice that is calling you back to it, if you've left it for some time?
Tell me about your intentions in the comments below. Iād love to hear what practices are call you back.
